UVIC Model United Nations Conference

A huge accomplishment and recognition deserving a MASSIVE SHOUT OUT to gr 10 student, Kathy He !  This past weekend at the UVic Model UN conference, Kathy beat all other schools in her committee to win TOP POSITION PAPER! This is especially notable for the following reasons; Kathy is only in grade 10 and competing against 11's, 12's and UVic Model UN delegates/students, also due to some botch ups with registration, Stelly's only received their country delegation two days before the conference; therefore, they had to research AND write a maximum two page position paper representing their country's stance on the issue at hand in less than THREE days! Also, our delegation have few editors, coaches or tutors and yet they compete each year against private schools who do have much staff support, coaching, editing etc! Oneresolution paper regarding transparency regarding nuclear programs globally, was entirely conceived, written and proposed by a Stelly's alliance between countries. Wow!

Did you know that at various high school and University Model UNs around the globe, various resolution papers and proposals are frequently sent to the REAL United Nations? How cool is that?

Congratulations to all of the rowers for their excellent racing at the LVISSAA City Rowing Championships over the Nov. 5th and 6th cold and snowy weekend. In some of the most challenging conditions in the 32 year history of this regatta, the Stingers Crews braved snow, sleet, rain and strong winds to earn hard fought placements in 13 finals of 16 events entered. Of those 13 finals the powerful Stelly's rowers earned 9 podium finishes with 4 silver medal and 5 bronze medal performances. These great results cap a very strong season for the Stingers Crews as they have represented our school so well both individually and as a Team. Thank you to all of the parents and teachers that came out to cheer the team on! Well done Rowers and Go Stingers!
